LAPD Cops Making Art - Photography by Juanita Richeson

"This is our typical Skid Row bum with his trash cart, carrying his dog behind, they always have dogs with them, we haven’t figured it out, but at least someone gives them a home. Here’s my big rat and I swear it’s the reason for all the code 30 ringers [burglary alarms] we have going on around here. Plus the big roaches, the rat’s friends. These are our cardboard condos and here’s a big doughnut because everyone offers me doughnuts ‘cause I’m a cop and they all think I eat doughnuts. This is a little bit of graffiti I wrote on the wall and usually it’s not as nice as this. Here’s my man with his yellow balloon, you usually find heroin inside balloons. So that’s typical of a little scene right around the [Central] Station. And this is Parker Center with my police car."
